David Barbour

David Barbour teaches photography at SPAO and the Ottawa School of Art and balances commercial assignments and personal projects in both Ottawa and Halifax. Highlights to his career include a World Press Award (1986) and a Mid-Career Canada Council Grant (1999). This photograph, taken on a 6x12 camera with film and printed on Ilford Warmtone Fiber paper in March 2009, is the first image he took in Halifax and is part of an evolving series he calls Home.

Claude-Philippe Benoit

Claude-Philippe Benoit exhibited in Canada, in Europe and in the United States. His works are part of many Canadian public collections, notably the Ontario Art Gallery, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany. Born in the Outaouais, Benoit is co-founder of AXENÉO7, where he was president from 1983 to 1987. He currently lives and works in Montréal and is represented by the Lilian Rodriguez in Montréal.

Marlene Creates

Marlene Creates is a visual artist who lives and works in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland. She was born in Montreal, studied visual arts at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and lived in Ottawa for twelve years before moving to Newfoundland in 1985. Her practice is an exploration of the relationship between human experience, memory, language and the land, and the impact they have on each other. She has exhibited in over 250 solo and group exhibitions across Canada and internationally. Her work is in numerous public collections including The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, and the National Gallery of Canada. Creates is also an educator, environmentalist and community arts activist.

Pat Durr

After studies in the United States and England, Pat Durr settled in Canada. For over 30 years, Durr has been dedicated to the creation of visual art work in a variety of media ranging from drawing, painting and printmaking to video and the world wide web. Her work is found in private, public and corporate collections across North American and in England and Israel.

Tony Fouhse

Ottawa native Tony Fouhse is an editorial and commercial photographer. He also travels to carry out personal projects such as taking photographs in Mississippi, Arkansas and New Jersey. Fouhse is achieving international attention and recognition for his compelling work that's closer to home, shots of Ottawa Lowertown addicts. Every day Fouhse finds himself in a different situation. Different circumstances. No matter, he always throws himself into the experience. Photos come out of this process. Convincing. Vigorous. Keen. Uncanny.

Lorraine Gilbert

Lorraine Gilbert has been producing photographic artworks and exhibiting since 1979. She has works in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, and the Vancouver Art Gallery, among others. Her most recent body of work, entitled Le Patrimoine, was shown this past winter at the Carleton University Art Gallery. This series of photographs continues her interests in the natural, social and rural landscape of Quebec. This photograph is a part of the series.

Vera Greenwood

Vera Greenwood was born and raised in Calgary and now lives in the Gatineau Hills of Québec. She has a Diploma of Visual Art from the Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary), as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University (Montréal), both specializing in printmaking. Over the past 15 years Greenwood's printmaking background has developed into a multi-media installation practice. Her work has been widely exhibited across Canada and internationally. Her artistic residencies include the Canada Council Paris Studio, The Banff Centre for the Arts, the Art Gallery of Sudbury, Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City) and Daïmon (Gatineau, Québec).

Colwyn Griffith

Colwyn Griffith studied photography at Dawson College in Montreal (1994-96) and has a BA in Film Studies from Carleton University (1994). He has participated in many group and solo exhibitions across Canada and overseas. His work has appeared in various publications such as Canadian Art, Photo Ed, and in Douglas Coupland's book Souvenir of Canada 2 (Toronto: Douglas & Macintyre, 2004). He lives in New York City.

Greg Hill

Greg Hill is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working in installation, performance, and digital imaging. His work explores his Kanyen'keheka (Mohawk) and French-Canadian identity through the prism of colonialism, nationalism, and concepts of place and community. Born and raised in Fort Erie, Ontario, Hill is a member of the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation. He has been exhibiting his work since 1989, with solo exhibitions and performance works across Canada as well as group exhibitions in North America and abroad.

Kenneth Lochhead

Born in Ottawa in 1926, Kenneth Lochhead studied art at Queen's University, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Barnes Foundation in Pennsylvania. He was the Director of the University of Saskatchewan School of Art from 1950 to 1964, and initiated the Emma Lake Artists' Workshop in 1955. Lochhead was also one of the famous Regina Five, a group of painters who first exhibited together in the exhibition Five Painters from Saskatchewan, organized by the National Gallery of Canada (1961). After leaving Regina, Lochhead continued to teach painting and drawing at the University of Manitoba, York University, and the University of Ottawa until his retirement from teaching in 1989. From 1953 to 2006, Lochhead participated in over 300 national and international exhibitions and received over 18 major Canadian and international art commissions. In 2005, the MacKenzie Art Gallery marked Saskatchewan's Centennial with a sixty-year retrospective of Lochhead's work, and celebrated the art, teaching and vision of this man who helped to establish contemporary art in Canada. He was honoured with the Order of Canada in 1971, an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Regina in 2001, and the Governor-General's Award in Visual and Media Arts in 2006. Kenneth Lochhead worked in his studio as a full-time painter until his death in 2006.

Deborah Margo

Deborah Margo lives in Ottawa. Recent projects have included Why Do We Cry? Lamentations in a Winter Garden with Devora Neumark at DARE DARE Centre de diffusion d'art multidisciplinaire de Montréal from September to December, 2008 and a solo exhibition, 40019's Ceaseless Transformation at Patrick Mikhail Gallery in Ottawa this past January. Currently she is preparing for a two-person exhibition at TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary with Eric Cameron, scheduled for September, 2009.

Uta Riccius

Uta Riccius' work comments on how nation states and political boundaries, as represented on maps, are artificial constructs. Past exhibitions include a solo show at The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum in 2006, and group shows at Patrick Mikhail Gallery, Owens Art Gallery, Karsh-Masson Gallery, Modern Fuel, Dunlop Gallery, AxeNéo7, SAW Gallery, and L'Imagier. She is part of the Enriched Bread Artists Studios and currently teaches full time and is the Coordinator of the Visual Arts Program at Heritage College in Gatineau. She is member of the Board of Directors of The Ottawa Art Gallery.

Michael Schreier

Michael Schreier, professional artist and photographer, has dedicated his career to the celebration of both the public and private hero. Selected works are represented in numerous collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, National Archives Photography Collection, the Agnes-Etherington Art Centre, Canadian Portrait Gallery, and the University of Ottawa Library Special Collections. Schreier is represented by Patrick Mikhail Gallery.

Carl Stewart

Carl Stewart is a weaver living and working in Ottawa. He has been a member of the Enriched Bread Artists since 1997.

Jeff Thomas

The photo-based practice of Jeff Thomas focuses on illuminating the First Nations urban experience, and to challenge perceptions and stereotypes of First Nations people. Thomas is also an independent curator and has developed exhibitions for the National Library and Archives of Canada, the Aboriginal Healing Foundation, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and George Eastman House. In 2008 he was awarded the Karsh Award in photography and his work was featured in a solo exhibition, Drive By: A Road Trip with Jeff Thomas, at the University of Toronto Art Centre.

Eric Walker

Eric Walker was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1957. He studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design between 1976 and 1983. He began exhibiting in 1982 and has continued to work and exhibit primarily in the university, regional art gallery, and artist run scene for two decades. Walker has received numerous awards and grants, including Canada Council “a” grants (2000, 2005) as well as "a" awards from the Ontario Arts Council (2001, 2003). His works are widely held in public collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Owens Art Gallery, The Ottawa Art Gallery, Carleton University Art Gallery, Dalhousie University Art Gallery, the City of Ottawa and V-Tape.

Justin Wonnacott

A photographer since 1974, Justin Wonnacott has shown across Canada and abroad. His work forms part of many institutional and private collections. In 2005, he was awarded the Karsh award for photography by the City of Ottawa. In 2006, he was included in the CMCP show, The Street which is now travelling. He is a teacher and also curates exhibitions and writes about photography . Last year he was invited to ACAD for a week as a “visiting Presidents Scholar” In 2008 the OAG acquired three of his large photomontages and two were included in the exhibition “Evidence”. In 2008 Justin was elected to the RCA.
