Family Workshop
with Wendy Walgate
Saturday 8 March 2008 from
10:00 am to noon (in English)
In the context of the exhibition Buildup, OAG is pleased to present a Family Workshop with artist Wendy Walgate. The workshop will begin with a short visit to Walgate's Five Litre Beaker series, followed by a demonstration of how to cast a plaster animal mold and to glaze a fired animal form. Children and parents will then have the opportunity to paint their own animal and stamp out an individual metal tag to label it. This is a great opportunity for parents and children (age 7 and up), youth, and adults.
Wendy Walgate was a resident at the Harbourfront Crafts Studios where she won the Artists' Residency Scholarship in 1995. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Prime Gallery (Toronto) and Network Gallery (Detroit). She is currently represented by Ferrin Gallery (Massachusetts). From 2003 to 2005, she served as President of the Ontario Crafts Council. In 2006, Wendy was awarded membership in the Royal Canadian Society of Artists. Walgate completed a M.F.A. in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art (1994) and an M.A. in Art History at University of Toronto (2003), as well as a B.F.A. in Printmaking and Ceramics at University of Manitoba (1974).
