Organized in conjunction with its 2006 exhibition program, OAG is pleased to offer a series of hands-on workshops in which young people will work with professional artists to create their own art collection, which they will eventually display in their personal cabinet of curiosities.
Frottage: Follow Your Fingertips
Saturday 25 November 2006, 1 to 4 pm, with artist Deborah Margo (English and French)
Participants will be led on a tour of Arts Court to discover the building's different historical and contemporary uses. After exploring spaces that include former jail cells and courts of law, everyone will create a series of paper rubbings as a way to identify traces from the past. Each participant will then make these drawings into their own artist's book.
Deborah Margo has lived in Ottawa since 1990. A selection of her sculptures and drawings from the last ten years are part of OAG's exhibition Castings.
Transformations
Saturday 4 November 2006, 1 to 4 pm, with artist Monika Napier (English and French)
This workshop will focus on reconfiguring an everyday, found object into a one-of-a-kind work of art. Various assemblage techniques will be used and materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring their own found object for transformation, but should be prepared for it to be altered beyond recognition!
Monika Napier is a sculpture and installation artist who recently relocated to her hometown of Montreal. Her work is part of OAG's exhibition Relative.
Space is limited!
