Marie-Jeanne Musiol: Du noir, une impulsion lumineuse
Text by Jean-François Renaud, Marie-Jeanne Musiol, Pascale Beaudet

Marie-Jeanne Musiol's work involves a complex reduction through which the image is stripped down to reveal the processes and interventions to which it has been subjected. Not only do her images refer to the physical reality of the photographic object, but the serial works and the repetition of identical images presented at different stages of revelation also collectively evoke another level of meaning, a step beyond the click of the shutter, one which is often eclipsed in our understanding of photography: the work in the darkroom.
